The Sergeant Major of the Army William G. Bainbridge Award for Excellence is presented to Sergeant Major Scott A. Stimpson for his exemplary military service and strong and unwavering leadership of the Columbia River Chapter during the very difficult period of Covid restrictions. As Operations Sergeant for the Oregon Army National Guard Recruiting Battalion, he spoke with hundreds of soldiers about the benefits of Army service and always highlighted the activities and accomplishments of the Association of the United States Army and Columbia River Chapter. In addition to all his duties, he graduated from the Sergeant Major Academy. As Chapter President, his leadership and enthusiasm enabled him to find ways to conduct safe and successful soldier support activities under the most challenging of circumstances. For example, the Chapter conducted its 16th Fore! Our Troops golf tournament and fund raiser, its 13th Holidays for Heroes Christmas gift project for 305 residents at both Oregon Veterans Homes, the Oregon State’s 9th Camp for Abused Kids and numerous other reduced presentations. Sergeant Major Stimpson’s exemplary career and significant achievements as Chapter President reflect great credit upon himself, the Columbia River Chapter and the Association of the United States Army.
